Is the remarkable diversity of bowling leagues being struck down by development?
The topic of diversity, equity and inclusion dominates the landscape; politics, education, entertainment and corporations all scrambling to comply with this new social norm. Yet there’s a powerful social forum of diversity, equity and inclusion that’s been right under our noses for decades. And in the midst of all this initiative, it’s dying.
Modern bowling leagues transcend classic stereotypes, exemplifying an often unrecognized level of diversity, but the thrust of city growth threatens this vital source of social capital. Through touching interviews with players, frank conversations with industry professionals, and discussions with city officials, ALLey embarks on a journey to discover the future of the properties, the sport, and the communities affected by aggressive modern development.

A film is a spell... magic conjured from dreams and fragments of experience. My goal is enlightenment. My great hope is the continued existence of places where people from all walks of society can commune in camaraderie, sportsmanship and peace.
The loss of third places and its effect on community is a topic bigger than any one film. I'm grateful for the opportunity to bring the issue to light through this narrow lens. The people who generously gave their words and emotions to this project are radiant stars peppering the dark night sky. May this spell spread their light to all corners, heralded by the clattering of pins.
D. Nelson's projects have been selected for the Lost River Film Festival and Texas Film Friday screenings.
